Commerce Server 2009 R2 Training
During this 5 day Deep Dive into Commerce Server development your skills are guaranteed to be taken to the next level.
By the end of the week you will have learned to build advanced top of the class e-commerce solutions on Microsoft's enterprise platform - all based on industry best practices. You will know how you can leverage the out-of-the-box functionality in Commerce Server to the fullest and equally important how to extend built-in functionality to suit your particular needs.
See the video below for the introduction to the course.
Course Topics
The course will cover the following topics:
Architectural/Platform overview
An overview of the platform seen from a developers perspective. This includes tools, the SDK, requirements, as well as good practices.
Developing Commerce Server solution on ASP.NET
A look at the requirements and configurations needed when developing ASP.NET CS solutions. This includes HTTP Modules, HTTP Handlers and caching.
Developing Commerce Server Foundation API
An in-depth look at the programming entity model as well as possible extensibility points.
Developing and Integrating Catalog System and Catalog Manager
A deep dive into development with the Catalog System, including the database and object model, searching, caching as well as tools. Online shops are not standalone systems in the enterprise and must be integrated with existing business systems for maximum benefit. Thus we also take an in-depth look at integrating to the Catalog System to maintain product catalogs as well as products.
Developing Inventory System
From the Catalog System we move on to the Inventory System also covering the database and object model, authorization, global rules, and tools.
Developing and Integrating Orders System
A dive into the development with the Orders System. Again the object and entity model is covered as well as extending schemas, working with pipelines and tools. As with the Catalog System integrating to the Orders System is equally important.
Developing Commerce Server Solutions on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
CS 2009 includes WebParts to be used in MOSS 2007. What are the best practices for integrating the two products and using these WebParts? This is covered in this module along with the Extensibility Kit, configuration and customization.
Practical How-To's
A practical look into how to do some of the most common customizations with CS 2009 including custom pricing, custom shipping methods and custom payment methods.
For the last module attendees are encouraged to mail the instructor other topics for a How-To review. The module will be adjusted to these requests so you can get input on actual real-life challenges.
Throughout the training there will focus on good development practices including patterns such as MVP/MVC, usage of IOC containers and tools such as SQL Server Profiler and Reflector. Attendees will also receive a lot of code examples, custom made Commerce Server tools, and videos.
For detailed information and a full list of the content of each module in the course, please see Developer Week.
Each module includes instructor presentation and demonstrations followed by hands-on labs that ensure thorough understanding of the concepts, practices, and tools. The labs are performed on a Virtual PC image allowing you to take the examples and your code with you for later reference when the week is over.
Also the instructor will use his experience from numerous customer projects to relate the topics to real-life usage as well as bring in best practice, hidden gems, and cover typical pitfalls.
Who Should Attend the Training
This is a developer oriented course at an avanced level. The course is targeting:
- Experienced ASP.NET developers
- Developers with 1-3 years experience with Commerce Server - version 2007 or 2009
If you are unsure whether this course is the right level for you, please to not hesitate to email us your questions.

Said about the Commerce Server Developer Week training:
Joe Collins
.NET Web Developer, Midland Information Resources
"I felt I was being trained by someone that had "been there and done it" rather than someone that just "read about it". The Vertica Commerce Server training was worth every penny and exceeded my expectations. What really stood out was that the instructor had real world experience using Commerce Server as a repository in first class eCommerce sites. I walked away from the training feeling confident that I could implement Commerce Server in an N-Tiered environment; capitalizing on Commerce Server's strengths and side stepping its pitfalls. I was impressed by the fact that all aspects of development were included such as using MVP/MVC, IOC containers, and tools such as SQL Server Profiler and Reflector."
Suraj Upreti
.NET Developer, Company: Midland Information Resources
"This is one of the best courses that I have attended so far. Totally satisfied."
Scott Meyer
Developer, PrintPlace
"All of the documentation we received was excellent. The provided code solutions with a nice clean "sandbox" to play in are great, also. I really appreciated the presentation of the content. You could see that a lot of time was spent preparing."
Martin Pickering
CTO, Maginus Software Solutions Ltd.
"The ability of the Instructor to relate the material to real-world situations was a key factor in the success of the overall course."
Daniel Saxe
e-Commerce Developer, Connecta
"It was excellent to have a pragmatic course mixing commerce server and coding architecture. This is by far the best course I have ever attended! Thanks a lot!"
